Monday Weigh In

189.5. Uhoh, the scale’s going in the wrong direction! It was a bad last half of the week. It’s discouraging to have a setback so early in my journey! This past week, I let busy-ness and life events derail my focus. I’m not surprised at how easy it was for me to lose focus. That seems to be the way it has gone with my weight loss the last few years. However, I’m determined to learn from this and go forward with renewed focus. Weight loss is very important to me. I need to remember why I’m doing this.

On a brighter note, I still got my walking minutes in. I walked three times this week, trying some longer walks. This week, I will return to the shorter walks to see if I can keep my mile under 18 minutes. It makes this journey more fun to have goals and to switch the goals around each week if it seems like a good idea. I’m starting to get the bug for some strengthening activity.

For inspiration last night I watched an episode of Extreme Weight Loss that I had DVR’ed (Mike). I was definitely inspired. I plan to will have better news next week. Everyone have a great Monday!

Tuesday Inspiration

For inspiration and motivation I read others’ blogs and watch weight loss reality television. But this time, I am inspired by my own accomplishment. Yesterday, I finally broke the 18 minute barrier for my mile. I came in at 17:47! Woo-hoo! It’s a small thing, but a big accomplishment for me. I rewarded myself with a longer, more leisurely walk today through my favorite stretch of the neighborhood. My walking buddy, my golden retriever, and I did just over 2.5 miles in just under 53 minutes. That’s 53 minutes not on the couch.

The deer flies are active again now that’s it’s warmed back up here. My favorite stretch of the neighborhood is woody and swampy where there are more deer flies. I did get another bite, but like the last time, it didn’t swell and is not really bothering me. Although I screamed when it bit me, lol, since I have a history of bad reactions. Totally scared my walking buddy!

Monday Weigh In

188.0. Down 1.5 pounds. Increasing my activity and lowering my calories is working. Increasing the activity has been easier than I thought it would be. I averaged out to 14.6 minutes per day. Maybe it’s because it goes on my to-do list every day (even “no walk” goes on for rest days). I am definitely a list person! Lowering calories has been much harder. This past week I had some very high days. Even one day when I had a stomach bug, I still somehow got 1400 calories. I’m still aiming to get under 1500 calories per day (average) but came in at 1692 this week.

For this week my goals will stay the same. My walking goal gets a little confusing because at the same time as I’m trying to get my heart pumping for more time, I still have that dream of being able to run. So I am also trying to get my mile time less. So essentially, I have to walk further then to get time in. So far my fastest mile is 18 min 7 sec. I’ve done this twice. My current mile time goal is to get under 18. Well, baby steps. I’m still really just making sure I get some activity and not just sitting on the couch. But a girl can dream.

I’m not getting very far on posting more often. That may turn out to be just a dream also. This past week was house renovations taking up all my time. This week will be finishing up the renovations, an afternoon baseball game, preparing the house for a visit from my daughter and her SO (arriving Thursday) and then visiting through the weekend. I have to say some of my most precious things are my children and any time I can spend with them is devoted entirely to them. Well, honestly being shy and uncomfortable posting plays a factor too. But I do have some ideas floating around in my head for posts other than the weekly update.
